OpenAI has effectively canceled the release of o3, which was slated to be the company’s next major AI model, in favor of what CEO Sam Altman is calling a “simplified” product offering.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Altman said that in the coming months, OpenAI will release a model called GPT-5 that “integrates a lot of [OpenAI’s] technology,” including o3, in its AI-powered chatbot platform ChatGPT and API. As a result of that roadmap decision, OpenAI no longer plans to launch o3 as a stand-alone model.

OpenAI is considering granting new voting rights to its nonprofit board in a move that could help it fight an unsolicited takeover bid from Elon Musk, the Financial Times reported last night. Citing people familiar with the discussions, the FT wrote that CEO "Sam Altman and other board members are weighing a range of new governance mechanisms after OpenAI converts into a more conventional for-profit company."

"Giving the nonprofit's board outsized voting power would ensure it retain control of the restructured company and [is] able to over-rule other investors including existing backers such as Microsoft and SoftBank," the FT wrote. "While no firm decisions have been made, special voting rights would also ensure OpenAI can fight off hostile bids from outsiders such as Musk."

Many years ago I read a science fiction story about a seismological laboratory that was located on the geological fault of San Andreas, the scientists had painted a white line on the floor of the parking lot that symbolized the fault line and when an earthquake started everyone ran to the other end of the parking lot, considered the continental land, far from the laboratory that was supposed to be built in the part of the USA that would sink into the sea. When the BIG ONE arrived, everyone ran, except for one who was trapped under a closet. When he managed to free himself, on the other side of the line there was only the sea and nothing else... to Ireland.

Age against the machine—susceptibility of large language models to cognitive impairment

Hopefully they forget how to kill us, before they get the chance to?

Their secret. Apparently the staff there are treated better than at other Chinese tech firms. Who would have thought if you treat your staff better, you get better results!!!

A complex problem that took microbiologists a decade to get to the bottom of has been solved in just two days by a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool.

Last week I bought ink cartridges for my old EPSON printer. When I went to the checkout there was a young couple trying to decide what type of humidifier would be most suitable for the baby's bedroom. The mother chose a very attractive model with drawings, but the father automatically said: No Disney, only the Mickey drawing makes that thing worth twice as much and probably the electronic part will be of worse quality.

Automatic behavior: Disney=Excessively expensive= low manufacturing quality.
