A screen-grab from a film showing why the A90 would have been of doubtful use in the amphibious assault role.
As it had no ability to back off the beach it had to swing around in an arc using its nose mounted lift engines.
The result of that maneuver isn't pretty, I'd guess that the Marines weren't impressed.
