Firstly, this is based upon known discussions with the RN, known systems that were proposed and/or existed at one point or another and known sketch designs performed. However these have been combined together to form a single coherent platform that is representative of what could have been built...

Early design concepts for the US Navy Polaris SSBN also used variations of the Skipjack-class (SSN-585) nuclear attack submarine design originally intended for the Jupiter SSBN. The Polaris missile was so much smaller than the Jupiter that twice as many missiles could be carried in the hull...
Until the Type 22 frigate the Royal Navy did not follow the USN
in building ships with surface to air missile systems at both ends
like the Leahy and Belknap classes.
There seem to have been plans to do so, including by converting
the County class destroyers to have Seaslug launchers at both...
Images of a model from the US Navy concept formulation (CONFORM) submarine project from the late 1960s. CONFORM was a possible follow-on to the Permit (SSN 594) and Sturgeon (SSN 637) classes devised by Naval Sea Systems Command (NavSea) circa 1967-68. By November 1968, the initial CONFORM...

I was reading about USS Long Beach (CGN-9).
It stated that she was first laid out to be a smaller frigate, but expanded to a cruiser hull due to the ship being slated for the Regulus nuclear cruise missile and later, 4 launching tubes for the Polaris SLBM!
Does anyone know if there are any...

I am assuming a nuclear power plant could also produce a great amount of extra energy for DEW and other exotic "high power energy need" weapons.
Any thoughts?
PH 75/PA 75 was a military development program in France aimed at designing a nuclear-powered amphibious assault ship during the 1970s for the French Navy (Marine Nationale). Two ships were planned. Design work was never completed by the time the project was canceled.

I am looking for information on the planned composition of USN carrier battle groups, and the wider USN, in the early 1960's with particular reference to nuclear powered surface ships. As I understand it, it was initially planned to construct 6 Enterprise class ships and 10 Long Beach class...
I've seen some rather impressive images of potential future US submarines including such designs as Renegade, Renegade 2 and Merrimack, evidently designed to make extensive use of UUV's and other advanced technology.
U nfortunately, I haven't been able to find much more than images of them...
Does anyone have additional information or concept art for the Air-Dominance Cruiser, CG(X)? It sounds like it will be a replacement of the Ticonderoga-class (CG-47) and use technology developed from the Zumwalt-class project.

French concept for an aircraft carrier put forward in 1985 - 24,000 tonnes overall length 220m and beam of 60m. Have this interesting drawing, I am looking for an artists impression of this concept. Two centre catapults are 75m long and can launch 22t aircraft, less powerful ones either side can...

Hi folks,
At this year's DSEi Exhibition, BAE Systems had this advanced submarine concept on display - note the fully ducted propulsion (Sorry for the poor image quality - the photos were taken using my phone):

The Soviets had a number of stilborn aircraft carrier projects from the 1930's all the way through to the 1990's.
One of the most studied was Project-72 dating back to WW-II (1943) I think. Other projects include Project-69A, Project-85 and Project 1123 (Moskova concepts) before getting to the...
