"Pavel Beneš made around 1914 more than ten different studies of various sporting and passenger airplanes with one to four seats, most of them as tailless arrow-shaped monoplanes. One of those studies was the Type A from 1914 with the span of 7 m / 23 ft, lenght 3,5 m / 11 ft 6 in and take-off weight of 175 kg / 386 lb. Projected engine was a motorcycle V2 with 7,3 kW / 9.9 hp take-off power, cruising powere would be half of that. "
Hi,
at the beginning of 1935 ing. Benes (after previous work in Avia and CKD-Praga) founded the aviation department in the company of ing. Mraz. Ing. Mraz owned a company where he manufactured refrigeration equipment and decided to expand his business portfolio. Their joint venture was successful and within four years (until March 1939, when the occupation of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany began) the company built a total of thirteen prototype aircraft and delivered nearly one hundred aircraft to customers. In addition to serial aircraft, many projects were created by this company, let's imagine those that have been preserved in the NTM aviation archive...
The study of the all-wood four-seater Be.54 "Super-Beta" dates from April 1936. Apart from the drawing, the NTM archive does not preserve even the basic dimensions of this aircraft. It was to be powered by a 190 hp Walter Major 6 engine.

Hi,
Benes-Mraz Be.87, a two-three-seat fighter and attack aircraft project from November 1937. The aircraft was of all-wood construction, only the fuselage was welded from chrome-molybdenum tubes and covered with canvas.
Armament: one 20mm machine gun and two 7.92mm machine guns were located in the nose of the aircraft. The gunner had one 7.92 mm machine gun for rear hemisphere defence. The bomb bay, which was located in the fuselage, contained 200 kg of bombs. Hi,
the Benes-Mraz Be.90 was a light fighter aircraft project from 1937. This type was of mixed construction. The wing consisted of continuous and it had an all-wood structure. The skinning consisted of birch plywood 1,5 mm. The slotted ailerons and split flaps were also of all-wood construction. The fuselage had an oval cross-section and was welded from Cr-Mo steel tubes. The front part of the fuselage (up to the rear wing spar) was covered with duralumin sheets, the rear part of the fuselage had a canvas covering. The tail surfaces were also all-wood, similar in construction to the wings.
The robust main undercarriage, had fork legs welded from steel plates enclosing oil-pneumatic shock absorbers. The tyres where of 500*150 mm. The wheel brake were mechanically. Two machine guns (7.92 mm calibre) were located under the wing in the undercarriage cover. The power-plant consisted of inverted , inline twelte-cylinder, air -cooled engine Walter Sagitta (Engine version without compressor and propeller reducer with 400 hp). The Letov propeller was metal, ground-adjustable.
wingspan: 8,5 m, length: 7,15 m, height: 2,07 m, empty weight 800 kg, standard gross weight 1 100 kg, maximum speed at 0 m altitude: 450 km/h, maximum speed at an 4 000 m altitude: 520 km/h, service ceiling 10 000 m.

Hi,
the Benes-Mraz Be-91 project of 1937 was based on the Be.90 type. It differed from the Be-90 type mainly by a different version of the Walter Sagitta engine I 560 hp (MR version, M stood for a mid-altitude flight compressor and R for propeller geared drive). The Be-91 type also had a retractable landing gear and different armament compared to the Be-90 type (one 20mm gun, Oerlikon license).
Wingspan: 8,5 m, length: 7,18 m, height: 2,3 m, empty weight 880 kg, standard gross weight 1 210 kg, maximum speed at 0 m altitude: 430 km/h, maximum speed at an 4 000 m altitude: 500 km/h, service ceiling 9 250 m.
Only this drawing of the Be-91 type is preserved in the NTM archive.
Hi,
the third of the Benes-Mraz light fighter aircraft projects was the Be.92 type from the end of November 1937. It had a mixed construction like the Be-90&91. The wing consisted of continuous and it had an all-wood structure. The skinning consisted of birch plywood 1,5 mm. The slotted ailerons and split flaps were also of all-wood construction. The fuselage had an oval cross-section and was welded from Cr-Mo steel tubes. The front part of the fuselage (up to the cockpit) was covered with duralumin sheets, the rear part of the fuselage had a fabric covering. The tail surfaces were also all-wood, similar in construction to the wings. The armament consisted of four 7.62 mm machine guns. The power-plant consisted engine Walter Sagitta I-S 550 hp (version without propeller reducer). The 3 bladed propeller was metal, adjustable on the ground.
Wingspan: 8,0 m, length: 6,75 m, height: 2,05 m, empty weight 980 kg, standard gross weight 1 300 kg.
