Otto Reder 1943 helicopter

Apologies for late response to the thread. Drawing clearly lifted from my book.

It dates to June 1943 and was almost certainly a 'private' design by Reder, although it's clearly designed to move beyond the preceived weakness of the Fa 330, its unpowered motorisation. It is not clear if it was shown to Flettner, his then employer, who was in any case struggling to meet the RLM orders he had in hand. Reder moved on from Flettner in November 1943 to Ruhrstahl AG where he worked on the X-4 air-to-air missile.

The drawing turned up in the Nachlass his daughter deposited with the Deutsches Museum following his death.

Thank you for sharing your research about my grandfather Otto Reder. Do you have any further information about his position or results at Ruhrstahl AG? Kind regards Dr. Mathias Rosenbaum

You are more than welcome to contact me and I am happy to make my odd bits and pieces on Reder available to you.

Reder's position with Ruhrstahl AG is described as Versuchsleiter in an Allied post-war 'Available Personalities' list.

There is a single page handwritten document of his movements in 1945 which is held in his Nachlass at the Deutsches Museum. You are welcome to sight of a copy of my (admittedly not great) photo of this. As I mentioned above the Nachlass was deposited with the Deutsches Museum by his daughter, Ingrid Rosenbaum who I presume is your mother. I exchanged some correspondence with her in the early 1990s.

I haven't heard from you yet. Going through my files I reminded myself that I also have his Foreign Scientist Case file from NARA and a number of pages from the UK National Archives dealing with British efforts to try and catch up with him immediately after the war. Again, happy to make these available to you. Just let me know.
