He used images from GOES and Himawari-8 to produce more comprehensive coverage of the eruption than any news video I've seen so far.
The GOES image archive is accessible, and so is the Himawari-8 archive. We kind of take meteorology for granted, but it's a major achievement: we're able to image the entire globe, and repeat it every 10 minutes in 16 spectral bands.
