This might help.... MarkDoes anyone have any links or documents concerning technical data about the ADM-20 Quail?
Well is there a thread about the ADM-20?Interesting info on the Quail but it seems to be in the wrong thread, this thread was originally about Soviet decoy missiles...
Not specifically although there is this one: https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/th...d-dog-and-adm-20-quail-decoy.3226/#post-25948Well is there a thread about the ADM-20?
Worry not about its life in the scrap yard. Today there are decoys which mimic the radar signature and that are carried in much larger quantities. FWIW, I helped integrate the MALD onto the BUFF.I hope that after the Quail was retired it wasn't scrapped because would've a terrible waste as since there were designed to mimimic the radar signature of a B-52 they would've made perfect targets for SAM and AAM tests along with being a target for live fire missile target practice.
I guess they would use specialized versions of the Raduga KS-1 Komet and the Raduga KSR-2 Kelt cruise missiles.Interesting info on the Quail but it seems to be in the wrong thread, this thread was originally about Soviet decoy missiles...
It's just that when the Quail was retired in the mid-70s it would've made a perfect target drone for testing new surface-to-air and air-to-air missiles along with being used in target practice with live missiles.Worry not about its life in the scrap yard.
Thanks.@NMaude next time, try posting a new topic in the correct section.
I've created a topic for Quail and moved the posts here.
It a bit weird given that ITALD and MALD is still used so much later on, ADM-20 even have a repeater jammer, i wonder what make it obsoleteWhile the ADM-20 was clearly obsolete by the mid 1970s
