do i see right the Type 43B Otsu is a Fighter, not a flying bomb ?

the Type 53 is not manned, was this a remote controlled flying bomb ?

this is odd, The Deichselschlepp (towing system) is a German system.
one of the Germans Technology transfer to Japan ?

Hi Michel,

Type 43 Otsu is not a fighter. It is a flying bomb launched from a catapult.
Type 53 is not a remote controlled flying bomb. The drawing of type 53 is
from Tadeusz Januszewski's (my friend) Polish book. He tells me that the information
was from a German magazine article. But there is no information of wireless guided
missile version in Japanese source and US reports. So it is considered as
a fantasy created after the war.

Like other Japanese aircraft, the model was designated by 10 like Model 10, Model 20, Model 30, etc.
So there was no Model 1 or Model 5. They started from Model 11, and if they changed largely, they named it Model 21.
If their change was minor, it would be Model 22, Model 23, etc.

It is my understanding, sorry.

In my opinion, the machine guns of the Ohka 43B were used for self defence only.
All written references on the Ohka 53 mentioned that it was "towed"

Ohka 43 otsu(乙) type powered by Ne-20 turbo jet engine same as Kikka(橘花) special attack aircraft.
Ohka 43 was a ground launch aircraft(by catapult and solid rocket booster), because it's difficult to access U.S. NAVY carriers by the IJN's low speed bomber which carried Ohka to near carrier region.
I can't find any performance data.

I've not been able to verify the existence of the Ohka Model 53 in wartime sources. Nevertheless, I don't fully discount that it wasn't an actual version of the Ohka. My reasoning is that while the IJA was investing in the I-Go series (Ki-147, Ki-148, and the I-Go-1-C) of air launched missiles, the IJN had only one, the Funryu 1, and it was a failure. So, with the IJN having the Ohka already in production and proven to work in so far as flying, it would make sense to attempt to modify it with a non-human guidance system as a means to quickly obtain a workable air-to-surface missile.

Hi! Some Japanese sites says that the Ohka type 53 was a Ohka type 33 variant which towed by the aircraft until to reach near the target.
Type 53 was planned to have extended wing, and wing tip was jettisoned and became small wing span when attack.
