I have come across an article in the Belarus magazine AeroPlan No.12 about how the Yakovlev Yak-11 trainer was modified for "acting" in movies:
- One aircraft was modified to single pilot configuration and presented simply as the "Yak-Fighter" in the movie Normandie-Niemen.
Interestingly there never was a radial-engine Yak-1 or Yak-3.

- Another, more interesting modification consisted in a major fuselage reworking to pass the aircraft as a Polikarpov I-16.

- Finally, a third Yak can be seen painted in Luftwaffe camouflage to pass off as a German type.
