Derringer was designed by the prolific engineer: John Thorp. Updated versions of Thorp's T-15 agricultural airplane and T-16 Piper Cherokee are still in production.
Thorp soon sold his Derringer to the Hi-Shear Corporation who prepared the deisgn for production. When Mr. George Wing left Hi-Shear, he took the Derringer design with him to found the Wing manufacturing company, but only a dozen of the light twins were built. One limitation was low power. The first version only had 100 hp, Continental O-200 engines, while later versions had Lycoming IO-360 engines generating 160 hp.

We had one here around St. Louis recently that had to be restored for a new owner in Texas - has headed south now....
Neat looking aircraft!

Enjoy the Day! Mark

I can't help but wonder how it would do with a conversion done on other aircraft. replacing the IO-360 with an Allison 250 turboprop? As I remember from reading about such a conversion of a Pitts, there's no real difference in weight between the two engine installation.
