What-if Iowa battlecarrier.

I modified an Iowa battlecarrier plan to try to make it more realistic. In particular, the elevator is moved to free up the skijump ramp and the deck is lengthened in a Kiev-class style.

This one is optimised for F/A-18 operation. Skijump retired, and a second catapult is added in starboard.

Would anyone be able to put F/A-18 Hornets to scale on it ?

I would remove the #1 or #2 turret and put in VLS. An alternate would be to replace #2 with port and starboard Anti-missile systems.

Is that a Mk 26 launcher forward of turret #1? If so, I'm hoping that's a set of SPG-62 directors I see at the front of the superstructure (just aft of #2 turret), or they're going to be dependent on the escorts for designators. And I would imagine that, like with the CV/CVN designs, they'd probably opt just for the BPDMS/IPDMS launchers instead of both "pepperboxes" and a Mk 26...but I personally do like the option (although a later upgrade to Mk 41 VLS might be better). I don't see any CIWS on either design, though, which might be a flaw.

For #1, I'm a bit confused by the midships starboard section of the flight deck. Is that supposed to be a 2nd elevator? If so, it seems a bit small...& the line on the deck seems to indicate potential launching from it (which is doubly weird).

Not 100% sold on the Mk 71 8" turret. If you're using this ship for shore bombardment, a single 8" & 1 or 2 5"/54 turrets aren't going to add a whole lot of firepower, especially with the six 16" guns you still have. Might be better to consider if you could put a Mk 26 (or even a Mk 13) launcher there, or an additional BPDMS/IPDMS & some CIWS as well.
