G'day folks, there are some very determined folk recreating a Westland Whirlwind and having seen some of theiur work, doing a fine job. https://www.whirlwindfp.org/

As we know, the RR Peregrine was never really able to show it's best and by the time most of the teething issues were fixed, the aircraft was being withdrawn.

Seeing the aircraft has a decent chance of rebirth, what engines COULD do the job. There is a version of the NG-30 Nissan that was flown in the Pond racer and a race version that had about 1000hp but, woulod the physical package fit and, could the thermal management demands be met?

And because we cannot mention the Pond racer without Tsunami. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsunami_(aircraft)

I doubt there is any intent to go for period performance but those engines with all the kit are too heavy and quite a bit lower powered.
The Nissan motor would appear to be close or better to the orinal spec.

I'd suggest a turboprop.
