According to the report, Herbst was in charge of the MBB TKF-90 work and was hence jointly responsible for the PIKT study which was investigating key technologies for what the report dubs "NATO-90". MBB's team contributed their TKF-90 work, MDC their Model 265 work.

Of course, Herbst was no stranger to MDC having worked there on the FX (F-15) program from 1966-1970.

Paul, is there anything on Herbst's work from 66-70 published, apart from the computer design papers with Ross?

His work was in design synthesis using computer optimisation, initially looking at weight.

I wouldn't say just tools. He was involved in the early parametric design trade studies carried out using the CADE program which was specifically designed for the FX program. Whether he was the programmer for CADE, probably not?

Do any of Herbst's weights papers mention his F-15 work at all? I have his one with Ross.
