An X wing canard? Probably to early to be CCV in 3D. If they did that then presumably no y-racks. If the result was a smaller tail then imagine what the possibilities were with J75 (XF8U) or the F100 engines. The USN probably just wanted to kill off F-8 no matter what could have been possible....Or the escape capsule just had fins.
