A way to bring a conventional aircraft into the air using a VTOL transport is shown in "Der Flieger", January 1961.
In the example the Fairey Rotodyne is used as the VTOL transport, fitted with a kind of flying boom attached exactly
in the center of gravity. After taking-off this boom would be plugged during the hover into a receptacle in the other
aircraft (here an F-104A). The transport needs to have a payload of at least the take-off weight of the carried aircraft
and a maximum speed of at least its minimum speed. For landing a similar procedure as for inflight refualling is proposed.
