At that time the USN was studying different UAV concepts:

-First Generation Vertical Takeoff UAV
-Second Generation Vertical Takeoff UAV

Contract awarded to Northrop Grumman.

-MRE: Long endurance surveillance UAV (500-mi distant battlefield for 24 hr)

Contracts awarded to Boeing, GD, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.

The attached picture is a Boeing design for the multirole endurance mission
