I used to discuss with Japanese SST engineer(!!), I asked him how do you think of Boeing 2707-300 and Lockheed L2000-7. He answered me that 2707-300 and L2000-7 could succeed technically but failed economically. Of course American SST was more ambitious than Concorde and Tu-144. But once she fly, improvement go forward rapidly as you know. Please imagine improvement from Boeing 707 to Boeing 747.
