Detached airship cabin?
Most likely explanation indeed. No wing attachments (therefore not an aircraft) and two visible attachment points on top of the airframe (therefore something meant to be hanging). The round part at the rear is consistent with there being a pusher propeller.
 
It looks a bit like the propeller monorail locomotive doohickeys.

Gondolas were usually narrow at the bottom as I recall. This thing is widest at the bottom.

It may have started life as a gondola--then got modified by a Fuller fan who ran out of money and left it parked.
