Boeing sketched out numerous wide body twins over the years. MDC was ahead to the extent that it had an existing trijet to serve as the starting point for a derivative twin, limiting development costs and duration. But derivatives like this are compromises and are generally less optimized for the role than a clean-sheet design can be.
