While working on something SPF members might be interested in, I came across this:

Requirement for an aid to target acquisition at night for the coaxial mounting for SLR/IWS and Tiggy.

I know what SLR and IWS are, but what is Tiggy? Google comes up with royal nannies but nothing on weapons.

I doubt it's squaddie-speak as it is in an official General Staff document, so what can it be? A variant of the GPMG or another automatic weapon? A thermal imager?

Tiggy from Mrs Tiggywinkle from hedgehogs, so something nocturnal and spiky?

The requirement dates from the late 1970s, around the time MICV80/Warrior was being worked on.

I did wonder if it was related to 'TOG' on Challenger.

Given that the others are rifles, I wonder if it's related to some internal designation for the Armalite rifle used by special forces types.
