Over on ‘Found on the Internet’ there is a brief discussion about some unbuilt Liners….
This is a slightly updated version of what I wrote there….
Random thought as regards the White Star Lines cancelled Oceanic (1928)...Accepting that Lord Kyslant still does not escape being uncovered as a total fraudster...WHAT IF....?
The merger of White Star and Cunard still goes ahead, but slightly earlier...(the downfall of Kyslant precipitating a slightly different set of circumstances, forcing the merger earlier)...
Could Oceanic still be built, with her running mate being Cunard's planned new ship (the until named Queen Mary, Hull 534)
BUT...If Oceanic is built with turbines as originally intended, could she, with her revolutionary design and luxurious interiors cause Cunard to modify their plans for Hull number 534 (later Queen Mary) to make her less 'updated Aquatania' and more like the later Queen Elizabeth?
Now that would be an interesting pairing, Oceanic and Queen 'Mary/Elizabeth' or whatever the naming decision ultimately is, against Normandie and, BIG PERHAPS, Bretagne (Normandie 2 with two funnels) along with Germany's Bremen and Europa...
Of course, there are other vessels... Rex and Conte di Savoia etc I know, but the afore mentioned are the BIG Players in the North Atlantic services...
