The 8.6 cm Raketen abschussgeraet M42, is quite unusual as a rocket launcher, it is not often encountered in books perhaps because its field of use was restricted and limited or it was not very successful. It was a modified variant of an earlier DSR-Abschussgeraet, which lacked the sights and protective sheet metal jacket.
Ammunition for the launcher included a number of variants of wire barrage, fragmentation and illumination rockets, with both blackpowder and smokeless propellant.
