“The MacRobertson Interceptor” According to an American contemporary, the British Government will seriously consider the adoption of the winning machine in the England-Australia race for modification as an interceptor fighter. – Flight, 7 June 1934, p.560. Skilled spotters will notice that the model below shows the famous race-winning de Havilland DH.88 Comet at Martlesham Heath after repainting and serialling K5084 by the Air Ministry, but fictionally converted to an interceptor with a Merlin engine replacing the twin souped-up Gipsy Sixes.
