The MacRobertson Interceptor” According to an American contemporary, the British Government will seriously consider the adoption of the winning machine in the England-Australia race for modification as an interceptor fighter. – Flight, 7 June 1934, p.560. ( http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1934/1934%20-%200560.html )

Skilled spotters will notice that the model below shows the famous race-winning de Havilland DH.88 Comet at Martlesham Heath after repainting and serialling K5084 by the Air Ministry, but fictionally converted to an interceptor with a Merlin engine replacing the twin souped-up Gipsy Sixes.

Alternatively, leave it as a twin and put Peregrines on in place of the Gipsy engines. That will leave the nose free for heavy armament. *cough cough Whirlwind cough cough*
