In the period 1989 - 1990, in Bulgaria are deleivered 22 fighters 18 MiG-29 (izdelie 9-12A) and 4 - MiG-29UB ( izdelie 9-51 ). Bulgaria has 16 MiG-29 (now 15) - 4 trainers and 12 single setter's .
Of these, only 6 pieces are in flying condition .
On September 29, 1994 the commander of AFB "Ravnets" - Ivan Daev, crashed and died in MiG-29, Board 25. This was the only disaster to ever lost a board of the aircraft.
The first two MiG-29 The trainers - 01 (now Board 11, which crashed on 26.04) and 02 landed on AFB Ravnets on June 15, 1989 with this Bulgaria became the second country from the former Warsaw Pact (after GDR), which receives the most advanced for its time fighter jet, which today remains one of the best fighters for winning air superiority. The Squadron began to wear military duty with the new aircraft in spring 1990 the first combat shooting (with parachute target CP-100) take place on the polygon Shabla in June 1991 The first air show appearance was on September 21, 1991 at the opening of the Museum of Air Force Krumovo airport. The first demonstration of the aircraft abroad is in Czech Republic the Air Show that took place on Hradec Kralove international airport - 27 to 29 June 1996 and it was established demonstration group with MiG-29, nicknamed "Sea Eagles".
In September 2000, the new fourth-generation fighter MiG-29 are re-based from AFB Ravnets to AFB Graf Ignatievo and becomes the main plane of the second squadron.
