In the period 1989 - 1990, in Bulgaria are deleivered 22 fighters 18 MiG-29 (izdelie 9-12A) and 4 - MiG-29UB ( izdelie 9-51 ). Bulgaria has 16 MiG-29 (now 15) - 4 trainers and 12 single setter's .
Of these, only 6 pieces are in flying condition .
On September 29, 1994 the commander of AFB "Ravnets" - Ivan Daev, crashed and died in MiG-29, Board 25. This was the only disaster to ever lost a board of the aircraft.

The first two MiG-29 The trainers - 01 (now Board 11, which crashed on 26.04) and 02 landed on AFB Ravnets on June 15, 1989 with this Bulgaria became the second country from the former Warsaw Pact (after GDR), which receives the most advanced for its time fighter jet, which today remains one of the best fighters for winning air superiority. The Squadron began to wear military duty with the new aircraft in spring 1990 the first combat shooting (with parachute target CP-100) take place on the polygon Shabla in June 1991 The first air show appearance was on September 21, 1991 at the opening of the Museum of Air Force Krumovo airport. The plane came from Ravnets and without landing perform complex aerial aerobatics on the lower height limit. The first demonstration of the aircraft abroad is in Czech Republic the Air Show that took place on Hradec Kralove international airport - 27 to 29 June 1996 and it was established demonstration group with MiG-29, nicknamed "Sea Eagles".
In September 2000, the new fourth-generation fighter MiG-29 are re-based from AFB Ravnets to AFB Graf Ignatievo and becomes the main plane of the second squadron.

i think that this article illustrate in the best way the situation of the BGAF today sadly if you are not journalist from international media your voice is just like voice in the desert :-X

Ejection thoughts

As is already known worldwide in AFB Graf Ignatievo MiG-29 ignited during takeoff
The two pilots - Major Doychinov and cap.Metodiev acted professionally and ejected without causing damage to surrounding villages.
All this happened during the joint exercise "Thracian star 2012" with U.S. pilots from Aviano airbase.
Clearly, as always after such an incident will slurring analyzes, orders, penalties.
they will write the main culprits, although they will be innocent.
Until they hide everything and until all forget about it .
Over all of us, however, as icicles on unrepaired roofs will remain dangerously hanging heavy and sharp questions.
We went into NATO. One of NATO demands of us is to keep 'air-policing "- To be officers of the air part of the overall NATO airspace. We do it almost entirely with the MiG-29. Perhaps when we have signed contracts somewhere lay stringent assumptions.
- How many flying planes are needed for that task? (Not 6 as we have now)
- How many pilots are needed?
- How many flight hours and what training should they have? (Not 40 hours per year, like now here)
- How the inspections of aircraft is carried out ?
- Where and how their aggregates are repaired ?
And more and more questions ...
And certainly its not difficult to calculate how much it cost.
If even one of these elements is not provided financially, the whole system eventually falls into collapse and crash and launching one step.
Someone will probably ask - but where are the remains of military patriotism? Actually, you know, when your head is full of thoughts about how to pay your current Bulgarian fees, Bulgarian and a new appreciation of vapor or fuel Bulgarian kindergarten fee, Bulgarian support for children and family and many Bulgarian charges to fly at the same time technology for millions?
And at the same time with his miserable Bulgarian flight hours and wages to protect European and NATO sky?

We are aviation journalists and just ask:
- Who is to blame for that annually the financial contracts for maintenance of MiG-29 are unsecured?
- Who is to blame that founds separated for repairs of MiG-29 provide flight on edge of the risk With many technological compromise?
- Who is to blame that the best we have training and pilots flight hours are five times less than the minimum flight hours of their Western counterparts? the flight hours provided are 30-40 hours per year , in others - starts from 150!
- Who is to blame, that for many years the grant ONLY minimum amount of fuel, far below the minimum required for the quality preparation of pilots?
- Who is to blame that our military in particular the pilots are on the lowest wages and social security in NATO and the EU? And perform their duties in conditions of greater risk?
- Whose fault is to be concluded annual contract for 3 "Spartan" for 9 million in year and this is something to pay for 10 consecutive years and for 16 pieces of MiG-29 aircraft which is most needed by NATO for 2012 are separated only 3 million total lot less than necessary!

Someone finally has to take responsibility for it all!

It is true that our country has looked like a burning MiG-29 pilots from which happily (Young people) catapulted to Europe and USA.
Old and useless retired to the cemetery and burning air plane "Bulgaria" - to nothing.
But you - deserted, the crew fire-fighter - hopefully remove the hose if it have one, and rather than extinguish, to punish those who ruined the MoD.
Because the budget and European funds is not only to steal. And one of their many properties not only to satiate the hunger of the people but to maintain some sort of national security!
