It seems that a few years ago an app called 'Honey' was heavily promoted by various YouTube influencers. It turns out the app which is owned by PayPal was designed to rip off not only the people who installed it but those who promoted it.

This is part one of a series that's just started discussing what is going on.

Back in 2019 another YouTuber using the nym 'Markplier' suggested that there was something shady about 'Honey', it turns out he was right.

And a video from 2020 on why the 'Honey' app was a scam that no one noticed at the time.

The craziest part is the fact that MULTIPLE people realized that Honey was scamming youtubers/individuals out of their affiliate links, but either didn't publicize it or their videos simply didn't get the traction they needed to cause the uproar that is happening now.

Also, the whole 'controlling' discounts in partnership with online shops is pretty crazy. Wonder what the repurcissions are going to look like!

At the very least class action lawsuits directed at PayPal.

Here's the video which actually alerted me to this story.

How many people on this board use PayPal?
Don't know, don't care - I don't. I guess internet tubes surfers beware - but what is the concrete relevance of this issue to Secret Projects??? This is ***NOT*** an online scam alert website!!!

This is 'the bar' and I suppose anything that can adversely affect our lives, reasonable to be posted here. After all, a lot of folk trust their hard earned to systems like this. Sad but true.

Exactly, the key point is that PayPal, a company that asks for people to provide their credit card/bank account details as a means of making online transactions easier, spent $4 billion to aquire a company whose entire business model is to rip people off.

Do you want to continue to trust PayPal with your money?

I would suggest that as we buy books, often from folk on this here forum, the means by which we make the transactions is an open topic for discussion/debate.

My ten pence worth, as for cats, as likeable as dogs or parrots I suppose. Horse flies and mosquito's are another matter.
