So we have a basic fighter variant, an all-weather fighter, photo-recce plane.
What about a ground-attack version? Do you have any idea whether there was such a variant actually contemplated? If so, what air-to-ground ordnance was it to carry?
I would say in that time frame ground attack for the Navy was exclusively AD Skyraider. Heavy hauler and long loiter time, both missing from the F6U, first generation jet capabilities.
Has anyone seen a cutaway of the Pirate? I'm talking about something like a Mike Badrocke-level drawing. I've been looking for one but am empty-handed. I'm surprised because while unsuccessful, the F6U did serve in small numbers.
