Although there were excellent reasons for the RN not to adopt the Terrier/Tartar family of missiles I still think it worth examining how well they might have fitted the RN's ships.
Terrier could have been fitted both to the County class DLG (occupying the same area as Seadart) and if US aid had been generous to the Tiger and Swiftsure class cruisers.
Tartar could have replaced the helicopter hangar and deck on some Leanders or allowed for a double ended Type 82 missile ship.
ASROC could be launched from later Terrier launchers

sorry yes it does mean losing the helo and hangar. But the lengthwise hangar for Seaslug could feed a Terrier launcher as on Coontz.

Lengthwise - yes, but the height and wide is not right at all. The Seaslug magazine is long and narrow, with missiles stored in two lanes one after another. The Terrier have no analogue of such arrangement.

Without the MASSIVE stern alteration, at best one drum magazine could fit into the same space. I.e. 20 rounds at most. Not exactly a big improvement over the Seaslug. And vertically, it isn't exactly fitting good - I don't have a scheme of County on hands, but I suspect that drum in that place would affect engineering space.

The only more efficient arragement I could came with is to put two drums behind each other (40 round in total), but such arrangement is, frankly, highly atypical and would probably require an additional development.

Thanks Dilandu..I thought someone here or on Shipbucket had done it but memory fades....
Even 20 Standard ERs later would have been more use than Seaslug2?

Later - maybe, but from late 1950s position, the difference between Seaslug and Terrier (no Standard even in planning, the Typhon was viewed as future missile) was not significant. Seaslug was arguably the better choice at this time, since it was more accurate and have a heavier warhead.

Actually, I just made those schemes today to illustrate my point.
