In 1959, the Temco Aircraft Corp. built a miniature drone aircraft, designed to provide the U. S. Weather Bureau and U. S. Public Health Service with needed meteorological and air pollution data at low cost. Designated GDD-1 (for Geophysical Data Drone) the aerometric drone was powered by a 1.2hp McCoy engine and was selected in a competition against eight other firms.
