The key word is "bridge." You can only operate AFVs where bridges are strong enough to support them.

Many Third-World countries lack enough 70 ton bridges to support movement of MBTs.

That is why you need lighter AFVs (10 ton APCs and Scorpion light tanks) to patrol the backwoods of many Third World countries.

If bridges are light-rated, then the biggest vehicles you can send forward may only be 5 ton armoured scout cars (think Ferret).

On the worst roads, they can barely support light, 4WD pickup trucks, which is why Taliban, Boko Haram, etc. prefer Toyota HiLux pick up trucks.
