Nohara Shigeru's ILLISTRATED WARPLANE HISTORY THE XPLANES OF IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY & NAVY include interesting Ki-70 wind shield drawing. What is this? This wind shield shape is same as attached picture. This picture seems to be a mockup picture.
Ki-70's wind shield shape is mystery. :-[ I think that existing Ki-70 3 side view's wind shield shape based on Tachikawa's desk top model is mistake.
Desk top model had a simplified wind shield or ideal wind shield?

Thanks for the pics, blackkite.

It's difficult to find good resources on the Ki-70.

What surprises me more is that a prototype is claimed to have been produced, and the Allies even gave it the name "Clara", so why is it impossible to find even one photo of the real article??

As for the "wind shield" I think it's a problem of translation. Some kind of armored panels I believe.

Three Ki-70 were producted and tested, but the the test result was not satisfactory for the IJA. Maximum speed was 580km/h, where required maximum speed was 650km/h. There was a Ki-70Ⅱ plan with take off power 2200hp HA-211 engine or turbo charged HA-211 engine.(HA-211 lu engine).

Hi! Matsuba's image. Amazing drawing. Too large to scan. ;D This drawing is a large folded drawing in the book.
I will add some explanation for each parts. Please wait. ;)

Thanks T-50 san. This topic is very interesting.

Maybe in two parts?

Now we're talking. Thanks blackkite great scans!!!

The Ki-70 was supposed to replace the Ki-46 but was more difficult to handle and slower. It also had a 3 man crew to the Ki-46's 2 man.

One interesting feature was the remote controlled 12.7mm tail gun.

from 'The Xplanes of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy 1924-1945':

Blackite-san,

Would you be able to translate any of the numbered features in the drawings you or I have posted?

Hi Blackkite san
Ididnt know that there were three prototypes of the Ki-70,and I also didnt know that the Tachikawa plant was developing an inproved version of the Ki-70 very interesting stuff I must say!

I didnt know that there is so many info about this very rare type build by Tachikawa ,I want to thank everybody who was replying on my question for info about the Ki-70!
regards

Hi!
Three side view in before page shows No.3 aircraft because span was extended to 17.8m because of excessive 1ton weight.
Excessive weight and larger wing were the reason why maximum speed lowered. The IJA's requirements were to hard to design.
I imagine that flying test result of No.1 and No.2 aircraft were very bad. Ki-70 was cancelled due to poor preformance in 1943.

The feature of Ki-70 reconnaissance plane is that the cockpit and the reconnaissance member seat are very separated.
Since 670 km/h of maximum spped was required, Ki-70 reconnaissance plane adopted the thinnest possible laminar flow wing.
Therefore, the fuel which can be stored in wings will be restricted and fuel will be stored also in the body.
Loading of a flare was also required.
Therefore, it is the disadvantageous big long body on aerodynamics.
It is a type of the negative design which fell spirally.
