I remember hearing after the Volta Conference of High Speed Flight (1935), a scientist by the name of Eastman Jacobs did some research on supersonic wind-tunnels as early as 1936 in the US.  I'm not sure if it was actually built however.


I'm curious as to when the first supersonic wind-tunnel was built in the US whether it be unreliable, reliable, designed for testing aircraft and bodies of revolution.
