Searching for US concept for a manned inceptor late 50's 60's era. Very pointed design I believe it had a turbo ramjet power plant and the pilot was very reclined in a cockpit with little or no canopy.

Republic XF-103 Thunderwarrior would be one plane that fits the bill. A short description is here.

AP-57 THUNDERWARRIOR. ‘1954 Interceptor’ proposal and full development into Mach 3 XF-103. 3 prototypes ordered, cancelled Aug. 1957

SPF thread on the XF-103 (search engine is acting up again, it took me three tries to bring it up!).

URGENT NOTE: To anyone coming across this thread, please be advised that the Thunderwarrior designation has been recently discovered to be an accidental modern invention rather than an actual company name or nickname. [July 2013]

By the way, you can find even more info on the Thunderwarrior at RyanCrierie's SAC (Standard Aircraft Characteristics) Archive. Just scroll on down to 'F-103 Thunderwarrior'.
