Another attempt to bring down a drone by spraying fuel at it. This time, the plucky little drone walked away unharmed.

I imagine swallowing a drone into an intake would do the turbojet no good. One of these times the Flanker is going to go down.
Boobytrap them and the interceptor will be going down. One of these times the Flanker is going to go down.
In the movies, the drone would simply have a spark igniter on a wingtip... Flanker flies in front of it spewing fuel, drone sparks the fuel, fuel ignites and the flame propagates rapidly back to the Flanker, Flanker goes *FOOM.* However, that's not how physics works, outside of Hollywood.Boobytrap them and the interceptor will be going down. One of these times the Flanker is going to go down.
I was thinking more like a drone operator twitches at an inopportune time.I imagine swallowing a drone into an intake would do the turbojet no good. One of these times the Flanker is going to go down.
If the drone that shot a Stinger at a MiG-25 had been shooting an AIM-9X instead the MiG would have been toast. And if Russia forces the West to escort their drones it will be MiGs and Sukhois that will be littering the seabed. So yeah, do something stupid.Do you really think a fighter jet will lose to a drone? There will be a political decision and all these Reapers and Global Hawks will lie at the bottom

Yes. Would cause all kinds of anguish for the Flanker fanbois (if any still exist).Nah if it keeps up they will ultimately stop playing goofy political games and shoot it down.
I was talking about the rabid, "Flanker is the greatest, mostest, badest, airplane of all time" fanatics. If the drone that shot a Stinger at a MiG-25 had been shooting an AIM-9X instead the MiG would have been toast. Well, as with anything a lot depends on relative positioning. What is the ZNE of a Stinger missile against a Mig-25 at cruise speed? What about an AIM-9X... if you can't kinetically reach the target the speed of your missile doesn't matter.

Honestly, I'm still a fan - I think it is a pretty amazing design for the 1970s and retains exceptionally good performance in spite of its size. It represents a major improvement on past Soviet designs while combining a lot of the capabilities of a long ranged interceptor with those of a medium fighter.
Of course, it was limited due to avionics which provided poor situational awareness. With the introduction of the AIM-120 it was further at a disadvantage. But it is still a pretty robust design from an engineering standpoint, with a number of pretty elegant solutions.
