Strange Idea for Sea Tank

the idea of the under water tank itself is not crazy, there are allready some thanks wth a kind of periscope to cross rivers. The plastic canopy is quite a stupid idea, steel would do the job as well or even better and sealing the turret seams not to be more difficult than retracting the cannon to me...

The notion seems to have been 'ploughshared' for in-shore cable and pipe-laying ROVs, where it is too shallow for a ship or jack-up barge, too deep or 'muddy' for 'leggy' wading vehicles...

That concept looks to be based upon Soviet propaganda generated during the Cold War. Soviet "parade regiments" loved to deomonstrate tanks crossing rivers. What the public did not see was all the pressed steel plates (think temporary airfields) and concrete laid on the river bed and gently-sloped ramps with a thin layer of mud covering the concrete.
This concept is great for propaganda, but would not survive all the dips and pot-holes surrounding potential landing beaches.
Just look at all the divers/combat swimmers who had to devote hundreds of hours of swimming time to survey invasion beaches during WW2.
