SPACE 'SERVICE STATION'

This artist's conception from Lockheed-California Company depicts an interplanetary 'service station' as recommended by the company's spacecraft scientist, Dr. Donald T. Perkins. A stub-winged Interplanetary manned vehicle "gasses-up" from a previously launched rocket fuel container orbiting around the earth before continuing its trip to Mars or Venus. It is above 25 million miles to Venus, 35 million miles to Mars at their closest points to earth. (AP Wirephoto)
