The next few days should be interesting. I expect Mandelas death will be Big News... and thus, other things that might've been Big News on their own will now get lesser coverage. So I won't be too surprised to see some interesting things being done shortly.

Also helpful: tomorrow (or perhaps today, depending on where you are) is Friday, the traditional dumping ground of politically bad news. So having a worldwide news story conveniently dumped on Fridays doorstep would make it *really* tempting to finally release that damning report that you're legally obligated to release, but really don't want to.
 
Probably also have retrospectives of how Mandela's policy of reconciliation prevented a blood bath in South Africa when the African National Congress came to power and dismantled the system of apartheid.
