Single Spar Slotted Wings Next (April, 1931)

So, what is wrong with this idea?

It looks like one of the saner ones... one would think that it'd work reasonably well...?

Is it just that the airfoils would interfere with each other - so that for the added weight it is just as easy to use larger conventional flaps?
 
I'd really love to know who the "well known" British engineer behind the design might have been...

It looks like a perfectly feasible design to me and my (very limited) knowledge of aerodynamics.
