Imagine a hybrid between a flying saucer and a Convair Sea Dart?

Of course you don't!

Well, meet Andrew Andraka, an 11th grade student who came up with such a concept: a Search and Rescue/Firefighting VTOL Aircraft unlike anything you've seen.

Could it be made to work? Andraka is convinced it would. At least his work is honest and his arguments seem valid enough on paper...

Waves would seem to be its nemesis: This craft would float so low that it lacks free-board, and waves will wash over it. That's one reason helicopters 'hover & winch', and rescuers wear wet-suits...
