I believe the Buccaneer was too heavy for Centaur's hanger deck, which as built was only rated for 30,000 lbs, and was not something easily corrected after completion. Hermes had the advantage of being under construction when changes were applied to her.As far as an air-to-air Buccaneer, I don't recommend it given what the Royal Navy would be expected to face against, say, Indonesia. Against supersonic fighters a Sea Vixen may lack speed but it can otherwise handle itself in air combat, something the Buccaneer really can't do.
