I realize this is a
pretty niche topic but it's at least moderately uplifting how, sometimes, imagined capabilities drive technological development and once mature end up cycling back into props and replicas that inspired them. Tricorders, such as here, are an example though many professional sensing/diagnostic devices could of course more rightfully be construed as the true the intellectual, inspired progeny of them. I don't know how many props have gained functionality in the same manner but it'd be fun to know whether there are other examples and/or consider where actual devices' functions and form factors have come the closest to the idea.
