From Aviation magazine 15-6-1985,

A logical situation for an aircraft that was the first on this new market in

June 1984. However, it is not for lack of commercial dynamism proven by

a noted offensive on the Australian continent. For its part, in the field of

projects, Saab-Fairchild presents an enlarged version of its basic 35-seat

commuter, designated SF-440.

Planned for 42 to 44 passengers, this new model with an elongated wing

and fuselage, should be powered by General Electric CT7-9s of the 2,000 hp

class.

"Should be", because no launch decision seems likely to be taken before

the end of this year, although the existence of this project was announced

several months ago already.
