Ryan Aeronautical and Teledyne Ryan Type Number Designations

https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/ryan-aircraft.1680/#post-64857

Stargazer2006's excellent Ryan list was updated to 22 Sept 2012. I thought it was time to do a further update. There's still lots of missing Ryan and TDA designations. I have left is speculated upon designations but not projects/products without model numbers assigned. (Perhaps a separate listing of designs/military designations which are 'missing' Ryan model numbers would be useful?)

For completeness, I have added in more non-aircraft Ryan/TDA products (some of which aren't aviation-related at all). I have retained (and expanded upon) Stéphane's 3-numeral Continental Aviation and Engineering/Teledyne CAE engine designations. But there's a major caveat: Teledyne Inc didn't buy out T. Claude Ryan’s holdings until 1969 - Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical (TRA) being formed 02 Jan 1969. So, in this listing, there is a bunch of duplicate designations (which are noted). The obvious problem is ... just because a CAE designation is listed, doesn't mean there wasn't a pre-1969 Ryan Aeronautical design using that exact same number.

I have also included some Continental piston engines with three-digit type numbers. This is probably going even further out on a tenuous limb since, AFAIK, all of those numbers are based on displacement (eg: the LDS-417 truck engine displacing 427 cid). That being the case, I might have also included Continental's model numbers based on aircraft engine displacement. But I didn't. Call it whim. (If moderators prefer, such engine entries can be easily removed.)

For these listings, I have inserted 'missing' numbers in hopes of filling them in as Model numbers are found. I've only done this up to Model 490 (beyond that, there be dragons). As Stéphane had noted, many of the 500 Series designations are for avionics but there are also TRA experimental engine cores as well. The 600 and 700 Series are all electronics as are the 1000 Series. I find no hint of a 900 Series.

Ryan/TRA model numbers begin chronologically but do not remain so. The form is simply Model + Number with optional sub-type Letter (and suffix number if needed). Many sub-type Letters are recorded with slashes or hyphen but, going by the Ryan Reporter, this form was not used internally by the company. Still, I have noted some of these anomalies as 'also known as' entries. I hope that this relisting is useful.
