A very distinguished actor who served with the US Army in Korea.
For me I will remember him as Admiral Greer in "Hunt for Red October". I always hear his voice when Greer speaks in Clancy's novels.
RIP Sir

James Earl Jones served twice as narrator for Disneyland’s Candlelight Procession. I was at the park and saw him shopping at one of the stores on Main St. before one of the shows. People knew who he was but left him alone. A little old lady came up to him and said, “I know who you are, but I cannot remember your name. You have a wonderful voice. May I have your autograph?” Jones gave a big smile and said, “of course.” The ice was broken and people started asking for his autograph too. It got so crowded that he had to be escorted out. That was a nice memory.

Excerpted from his obituary in today's The Times:
While his voice might have been immediately familiar — for a while, Jones used "Darth Vader" as his handle on CB radio but had to stop because of the terror his voice was generating within the amateur radio community — he preferred to be anonymous. With typical modesty, he referred to himself as a "journeyman actor" who muddled through his career without a plan. But this approach served him well.
:(:D

In the 1990s James Earl Jones appeared in a short lived detective series called 'Gabriel's Fire' which has not yet been re-issued on DVD. The (Non-movie length) Pilot episode can be found on YouTube.
