Sad news at work today that Ray Whitford has passed away after a short illness.

Many will have read his books on designing aircraft. For this forum 'Design for Air Combat' is perhaps his best known work.

I was fortunate to have been taught V/STOL design by him at Cranfield. He was an enthusiast for all things aeroplane, an accomplished author and a great teacher.

RIP. I met him once in college when he toured the U.S. in support of his 'Design For Air Combat' book. Harrier, I had no idea that he also taught classes as well. That had to be an excellent class. I really enjoyed my V/STOL aero class, but the professor I had was incredibly arrogant. Although, I have no desire to write a program again for modeling a rotary wing down wash structure, lol.

Rest in peace - Design For Air Combat is a very enlightening book, I can see how his lectures would have been outstanding if they were anything like it!
