Pulsating Wing to Drive Propless Plane

LACKING both propeller and tail assembly and driven only by a 10 H.P. motor, an Austrian plane is expected to take the air this summer. The motor drives a compressed air pump which expands and evacuates a large series of pneumatic air cells in the wings. It is planned that pulsations of these cells will furnish lift and driving power for the ship. By altering the stroke in the rear wing cells, which act as a propeller, the plane is expected to climb, bank, dive, hover and go forward or backward. The forward wing is used primarily for the higher speeds. The framework of the ship is constructed of welded steel tubing.

The picture is a " fantasy " inspired by the the Raimund Nimführs " Swirrflüger " ( Austria) which was built in the thirties ,but was never finished .

aircraft,during the 1930s,he started to develop the Maholeta,it was a strange
ornithopter aircraft,powered by one 10 hp engine,but it was never completed.

You must be very careful with documents from Russian or Ukrainian sources. These languages add suffixes to the names of people depending on their place in the sentence.

Whilst searching on Dr Nimführ online, I came across a reference to an article in the Scientific American magazine, vol. 127, issue 1, pp. 29-29 Pub Date: July 1922 entitled 'Dr. Nimführ's Soaring Airplane, Sandy Ice Cream' which can be downlaoded for $7.99

What an advanced design concept for the time! I really do like these unique design ideas that designers implemented and tested for some of their designs.
