Private Messages, Conversations, and Profile Posts

In Xenforo the equivalent of a Private Message is a Conversation. If you hover over someone's name, there's a popup - hit "start conversation" to start a private chat with that person.

Profile Posts by contrast are are public messages that everyone can see, attached to a users' profile.

PLEASE don't mix up these two functions.

I'm thinking of disabling the Profile Posts as several users have accidentally posted private messages in public this way.

I'm not so sure. By now just about all of our active members will have discovered the difference between the two features, helped along by this thread (which could be kept pinned as a handy note for new & returning members).

Understatement and good advice altogether !!! I can testify...

Ha ha on another forum I won't mention the name, I was banned because I did exactly that - and I was chatting with a fellow member about some very irritating members - obviously using very IMPOLITE / RUDE words and terms. We were both banned - Dumb and Dumber style.

Silly me.
