Archibald,I pretty much concur with your analysis, and hindsight makes it clear that two devices were necessary to drive the point home, but I could see a scenario where a decidedly shell shocked population, together with losses incurred from a drop of Fat Man on Hiroshima, would have achieved the end goal, while sparing the inhabitants of Nagasaki. I'll leave it to alternate history afficionados to play this scenario out.Martin
