Hi boys,
exloring the early postwar Italian projects for a new generation trainer I found a wellknown photographs of the unfinished mock-up of the Piaggio P.143 (still without propeller) and a less known one with the finished mock-up.
The aircraft was designed by Eng. Giovanni P. Casiraghi private venture, as were the contemporary FIAT G.46 and Agusta AC.208 (or C.208, by Mario Castoldi). In fact the Piaggio projects appeared to be the lighter of the three, with the FIAT more oriented to the intermediate training, with some advanced capability, and the Castoldi one more powerful and then more apt to the advanced training.
The P.143 was designed in 1948-1949, perhaps with partecipation of Eng. Alberto Faraboschi and Salvatore Bruno Mori; was a primary trainer with tandem two seats and a Franklin 6A8-215B9F (215 HP) or Lycoming GO-435A (260 HP), with Piaggio two-blade constant speed.
The airframe was already roughly the same of the following projects P.148, P.149 and P.150.
As we know, Aeronautica Militare asked for a side-to-side seating with an option third seat on the rear and choose the Fokker S.11 Instructor but also P.148 was ordered, even built in less numbers.
