Hi

Anybody seen pics of the Operation Grapple Blue Danube bomb casing (well they actually tested various warheads of different names & types but droped most encased in a Blue Danube shell).

Currently building a Valiant and would like to do the Bomb in the correct colours if possible

Cheers

Geoff

Weren't most Blue Danube shells dark olive green in color? I'm not sure if the Grapple shells were painted in some sort of high-viz scheme for camera tracking, though.....

I did find this pic of a dummy case being dropped by a Valiant: http://www.awe.co.uk/Images/valiant_bomb_drop_tcm6-1415.jpg

It looks to be two color, perhaps dark olive green nose and aft fin section with a white midsection?

This might help: A Blue Danube on display:

Allthough it isn't a Grapple round.

There is a similar test photo in the Aerofax book, with a Valiant in anti-flash. Trying to match the greys makes the bomb look like it has black ends and a white middle, bit in a matt finish rather than the more glossy aircraft.
