I recall seeing, a long time ago, a picture of a LaGG-3 in Japanese markings being evaluated. IIRC, that was in 1942(pilot defected with his aircraft).

In early 1942, a Soviet sergeant defected to Manchukuo with his LaGG-3's pilot's manual and classified documents, crash-landed and was captured. The Imperial Army was delighted to have acquired the Soviet Union's most advanced aircraft without any sacrifice.
